Matric Support Programme Arrives in the Northern Cape

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Mimmy Gondwe, in conjunction with the Fibre Processing and Manufacturing (FP&M) SETA, is set to host the next leg of the Matric Support Programme in Kuruman and Douglas on 25 and 26 August 2025.

This initiative is a key part of Deputy Minister Gondwe’s vision to make higher education more accessible to all communities. Following a successful launch in the Eastern Cape earlier this month, the programme now turns its focus to empowering learners in the Northern Cape.

Bridging the Gap to Higher Education

The primary goal of the programme is to equip Matric learners with crucial information about their futures. It aims to demystify the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector by providing clear details on available study opportunities and critical funding options.

To achieve this, the Deputy Minister’s office has partnered with several key organisations. Representatives from the FP&M SETA, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), the National Skills Fund (NSF), and Old Mutual will be present. Along with the Deputy Minister’s Helpdesk, these partners will share essential information on access, training, and financial aid within the higher education sector.

Joining the Deputy Minister will be local dignitaries, including Cllr. Ikgopoleng Ephraim Aiseng, the Council Speaker of John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, and Cllr. Itumeleng Matebese, the MMC for Finance and Corporate Services.
